Fourth Grade

 

CURRICULUM

  • Bible – New Testament, focusing on the life of Christ, the work of the Holy Spirit, and the life and writings of the Apostle Paul.
  • Math – review and expansion of place value to the hundred millions; addition & subtraction of large numbers, single & two-digit multiplication & division; introduction of geometry, fractions, decimals, measurement, and probability
  • Language – recognition of all eight parts of speech; identify simple and compound subjects & verbs; diagram subjects, verbs, adjectives and adverbs; learn rules for correct word usage and subject/verb agreement
  • Reading – oral reading & interpretation based on six character themes; instruction in comprehension strategies; strengthening reading skills, word analysis strategies & vocabulary
  • Social Studies – study the fascinating state of California including Native Californians, explorers, missions, ranchos, trappers, the Gold Rush, statehood, and modern California. This is augmented by research & writing assignments, the California Model Projects, field classes, and art and craft activities
  • Science – focus on God’s amazing order and plan for His creation; exploration of Biblical Creationism in the context of elementary level astronomy, biology, botany, geology and physics
  • P.E. – conditioning, skills & team sports, emphasizing sportsmanship; work on fundamentals in volleyball, basketball, soccer, football, and softball skills
  • Art – time lines, posters, relief maps, petroglyphs, pioneer stools, Bear Flags, and quilting
